PHUKET –
A taxi driver in Phuket was left shaken after a confrontation with an enraged motorcyclist who allegedly brandished a gun-like object during a traffic dispute near the Bang Khu Underpass.
The incident occurred on Sunday (October 5th) as the taxi driver was transporting foreign tourists through the Thepkasattri Road, exiting the Bang Khu Underpass. According to the driver, the narrow road prompted him to overtake a motorcycle carrying a male driver and a female passenger. Shortly after, the motorcycle sped ahead and signaled for the taxi to pull over.
Thinking the motorcyclist was upset about the overtaking maneuver, the taxi driver complied. Upon stopping, the motorcyclist reportedly opened his seat compartment and retrieved an object resembling a firearm, using it to threaten the driver. The female passenger attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation.
Fearing for his safety and that of his passengers, the driver remained inside the vehicle. The tourists were visibly distressed by the encounter. The motorcyclist and his companion eventually fled the scene.
The taxi driver expressed deep concern over the incident, noting that motorcycles are typically prohibited from entering the tunnel where the altercation began. He plans to file a formal complaint with local police and submit evidence in hopes of identifying and prosecuting the individual involved. While he could not confirm whether the object was a real firearm, he described it as convincingly similar.
