Phuket —
A man identified as the nephew of a well-known politician from Phatthalung province has surrendered to police in connection with a stabbing incident that left a 25-year-old man critically injured in central Phuket.
Our previous story:
The suspect, Mr. Teerayut, 43, turned himself in to investigators at Phuket City Police Station on October 3rd, following the issuance of an arrest warrant approved by the Phuket Provincial Court the previous day. He faces charges of attempted murder and carrying a knife in public without reasonable cause.
The incident occurred in the early hours of October 1st at a bar in downtown Phuket, where Mr. Kannatthawee, a native of Nakhon Si Thammarat, was stabbed and later hospitalized with serious injuries. The suspect reportedly fled the scene by car before contacting authorities to arrange his surrender.
During questioning, Mr. Teerayut admitted to stabbing the victim but denied any intention to kill, claiming the attack stemmed from a personal dispute and was committed in a moment of rage. He has formally rejected the charge of attempted murder.
Police have opposed bail during the investigation phase, citing the severity of the offense. Mr. Teerayut was accompanied by his private attorney during the surrender and legal proceedings.
Phuket City Police Superintendent Pol. Col. Chatree Chukaew confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody under the court-issued warrant and will be remanded for further legal action. Investigators added that the motive appears to be personal and unrelated to politics, and that Mr. Teerayut acted alone.
The case has drawn public attention due to the suspect’s political connections, but authorities have reiterated their commitment to impartial legal proceedings.
