Phuket-
Surakul Stadium is undergoing a major facelift, with local authorities confident the project will be completed by December 15th, 2025—just in time to support the province’s growing ambitions in national sports.
On a recent site visit, Mr. Rewat Areerob, President of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO), was joined by Mr. Thammawat Wongcharoenyot, President of the Phuket Sports Association, Mr. Anupap Wechwanitsanong, Vice President of the PPAO, and other senior officials to inspect progress on the stadium’s renovation.
The upgrade includes:
- A resurfaced playing field
- Enhanced lighting systems
- A new standard running track
Currently under contract, the renovation is expected to be completed by mid-December 2025. Once finished, the stadium—originally opened over 60 years ago—will be revitalized as a central hub for sports competitions and community activities in Phuket.

“This is an investment in the people of Phuket,” said Mr. Areerob. “We are restoring the stadium and preparing our province to host national-level events.”
Looking ahead, the PPAO plans to further enhance the facility with a covered grandstand, expanded parking, and a rooftop futsal court. These additions are part of a broader strategy to position Phuket as a contender to host the National Youth Games in 2027.
The Surakul Stadium project reflects Phuket’s commitment to building athletic excellence and community engagement, while preserving a landmark that has long been part of the island’s sporting heritage.
