Phuket Unveils New Road to Ease Traffic

Phuket –

A new road in Thalang District officially opened today, marking a big step towards improving traffic flow and public safety in northern Phuket. The newly expanded route, located behind Wat Tha Ruea in Moo 3, Si Sunthon subdistrict, was inaugurated in a ceremony led by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat.

The event drew participation from key provincial and local leaders, including representatives from Laguna Resorts & Hotels Public Company Limited.

The road behind the Tha Ruea Temple has long served as a shortcut for residents and tourists traveling between central Phuket, the airport, and popular destinations. However, its narrow width previously forced vehicles to take turns passing, causing frequent congestion and raising the risk of accidents.

Recognizing the urgency of the issue, provincial authorities joined forces with the Phuket Highway District, Si Sunthon Municipality, private sector partners, and civil society to develop a solution. Laguna Resorts & Hotels stepped in with financial support, contributing over 3.8 million baht to fund land acquisition and road expansion. The upgraded route now meets safety standards and offers smoother, more efficient travel.

The improved road is expected to ease pressure on Thepkrasattri Road, Phuket’s main north-south artery, and reduce travel time to the airport and other key areas. Officials explained that the project reflects a team model for infrastructure development, balancing public needs with private sector engagement.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, dignitaries gathered for commemorative photos before concluding the event. The road is now open for public use, offering a safer and more convenient option for daily commuters and visitors alike.
