Phuket—
A 25-year-old man identified as Yuttana was arrested in Phuket for allegedly acting as a drug courier, with more than 48,000 methamphetamine pills found concealed inside a package of avocados.
The arrest was carried out by the investigative team of Phuket City Police Station this week at a residence in Soi Bang Chee Lao 2.
Authorities told the Phuket Express that they seized 23 foil-wrapped bundles containing meth pills—each bundle packed with 10 bags of 200 pills, totaling approximately 46,000 pills. A further search of the suspect’s rented room uncovered an additional 2,361 pills, a motorcycle, and a gold necklace weighing two baht.
The operation began after police received a tip-off from an informant about a suspicious parcel being delivered via a private courier service. Officers tracked the package to a drop-off point near a coin-operated laundry machine beside a local shop. Surveillance teams were then deployed to monitor the area.
Yuttana arrived to collect the parcel. Upon inspection, police discovered avocados inside the box—alongside the 23 suspicious foil-wrapped bundles. The suspect was immediately detained.
During questioning, Yuttana admitted to working as a drug runner. He claimed he was instructed via phone calls from his unidentified boss to pick up packages and deliver them to designated drop-off points. For each bundle successfully delivered, he received a payment of 1,500 baht. He confessed to having completed two to three deliveries prior to his arrest.
Yuttana faces charges of possession and intent to distribute a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine), and illegal drug use. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the trafficking operation.
