Phuket—
Marine police in Phuket have arrested six boat crew members in a drug crackdown near Chalong Pier, a popular gateway for tourists exploring the island’s southern coast.
The Central Investigation Bureau told the Phuket Express that they launched a targeted operation after receiving intelligence about suspicious behavior among a group of young crew members preparing to serve tourists. Officers conducted surveillance and moved in just before the group began their daily operations.

During the raid, authorities discovered over 150 methamphetamine pills, a quantity of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as “ice”), and various drug paraphernalia. The suspects were allegedly using and possessing the substances in a concealed area near the pier.

Police say the arrests were part of a broader effort to safeguard tourists and prevent drug-related activities from infiltrating key tourism zones. “Allowing individuals under the influence to operate boats poses serious safety risks,” an officer involved in the operation stated. “This action not only protects visitors but also helps curb the spread of narcotics in Phuket’s tourism sector.”
All six suspects have been handed over to investigators and face charges of possession of Category 1 narcotics with intent to use, along with other related offenses.
