Mobile Application Driver Accused of Allegedly Abducting and Sexually Assaulting African Woman in Phuket

Phuket –

Authorities in Phuket are investigating a case involving a ride-share driver who allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted a 28-year-old female teacher in a wooded area of Thalang.

The Thalang Police told the Phuket Express that the victim, a 28 year old school teacher of African nationality, filed a formal complaint with Thalang Police Station early Monday morning (August 25th). According to her statement, the incident occurred late on August 23rd after she had spent the evening socializing with friends at a local entertainment venue.

She reportedly used a popular ride-hailing application to arrange transportation home. After dropping off her friends in Sri Sunthorn, the driver continued toward her residence in Pa Khlok. However, during the journey, the driver allegedly diverted the route, forcibly dragged her into a roadside thicket, and assaulted her.

The suspect also allegedly stole the victim’s mobile phone before fleeing the scene. A passerby later discovered the distressed woman and alerted local police, who provided immediate assistance and escorted her to safety.

Due to the trauma, the victim was initially unable to provide full details. After regaining composure, she returned to the police station to file charges. Officers have since arranged for a medical examination at Thalang Hospital and launched an urgent investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Police say they are working closely with the ride-hailing platform to trace the driver’s identity and movements.
