In a display of cultural pride and sporting ambition, the province of Phuket hosted a press conference to announce the upcoming Muay Thai Phuket Festival 2025. The event took place at the activity plaza opposite the Peranakan Museum in Phuket Town, drawing a distinguished lineup of officials and business owners from Thailand’s sports and tourism sectors.

Mr. Thammawat Wongcharoenyot, President of the Phuket Provincial Sports Association, joined the occasion alongside Ms. Propran Samanmitr, Deputy Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) for Professional Sports and Muay Thai, and Mr. Sophon Suwannarat, Governor of Phuket. Also present were key figures from the national sports industry, including Mr. Thanukiat Chanchum and Mr. Paitoon Chutimakornkul from the Subcommittee on Sports Industry Development, Mr. Chalam Attatham, Deputy Chief of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization, and Mr. Natthaphon Antarasen, Director of the Muay Thai Sports Commission Office.

The Muay Thai Phuket Festival 2025 is scheduled to take place from August 15 to 17 at Robinson Chalong (Soi Ta-iad), a location renowned for its concentration of world-class Muay Thai training camps. The festival is part of Thailand’s broader soft power strategy, aiming to elevate Muay Thai as a driver of the creative economy—bridging sport, wellness, and tourism.
Festival Highlights
The three-day event will feature:
- 15 professional Muay Thai bouts showcasing top-tier talent
- Interactive workshops for tourists led by elite fighters such as Kongthoranee Sor Sommai and Superlek Kiatmoo
- Exhibitions by renowned training camps, offering insights into the sport’s discipline and global appeal
- Live entertainment and cultural performances celebrating Thai heritage

A standout moment from the press conference was the debut of “Chartered Bear” in full Muay Thai attire, serving as the festival’s mascot and promotional ambassador. The ceremony also featured a grand Wai Khru ritual led by Nuenglanlek Jitmuangnon, recipient of Thailand’s Best Wai Khru Performance Award (Male) in 2023, accompanied by over 300 students from Phuket Vocational College.

The festival not only reinforces Phuket’s reputation as a global Muay Thai hub but also reflects Thailand’s commitment to integrating traditional sports into modern economic and cultural frameworks. With its blend of competition, education, and entertainment, Muay Thai Phuket Festival 2025 promises to be a landmark event for both locals and international visitors.
