Phuket –
A would-be thief was apprehended early Thursday morning after attempting to snatch a tourist’s bracelet during a morning jog along Patong Beach, thanks to the swift action of local citizens and beach staff.
The Patong Police told the Phuket Express that the incident occurred around dawn on the beachfront road when a 28 years-old Thai national, identified only as Napasinee, a transgender woman, from Nakhon Si Thammarat, targeted a foreign tourist exercising along the shore. Eyewitnesses—including lifeguards, street sweepers, and nearby residents—quickly intervened to stop the suspect and recover the stolen bracelet.
The tourist, shaken but unharmed, received their belongings back before police from Patong Station arrived and took Napasinee into custody. She now faces charges of theft under Thailand’s criminal code.
Social media reactions poured in after a video of the arrest was shared online, with many netizens praising the brave locals who stepped in. Comments expressed gratitude for protecting Thailand’s image and urged authorities to maintain vigilance in high-tourism zones.
Later that day, Patong Police Chief Pol. Col. Chalermchai Hoernsawat officially received the suspect and thanked civilian responder Mr. Worayut Naoprai for his role. Mr. Naoprai was awarded a cash prize as recognition for his public-minded action and support for local law enforcement.
