Nigerian Man Arrested After Fleeing Police Checkpoint in Phuket with Cocaine

In the early morning hours of August 1st, 2025, a dramatic chase ended with the arrest of a Nigerian national caught in possession of a large quantity of cocaine. The incident occurred during a routine police checkpoint operation in Chalong, a subdistrict in Muang Phuket.

The Chalong Police told the Phuket Express that they had set up a road checkpoint on Chao Fa West Road when a sedan driven by a foreign male approached. Upon realizing the presence of authorities, the driver suddenly accelerated in an apparent attempt to flee the scene. Officers quickly pursued the vehicle through the Kathu area and successfully intercepted it on Chao Fa Mine Road.

The suspect, identified only as Mr. Basil, a Nigerian national, was found in possession of 73.31 grams of cocaine, a Category 2 narcotic under Thai law. Officers discovered the drugs hidden inside the vehicle during a search following the arrest.

Police have charged Mr. Basil with unauthorized possession of a Category 2 controlled substance. The arrest was officially documented, and all evidence has been handed over to investigators for prosecution.
