Patong –
On Tuesday, July 29th, 2025, a large-scale tsunami evacuation drill was conducted in Patong, Phuket, Thailand. The event, held at a temporary stage near Bangla Police Box on Patong Beach, was part of the city’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of residents and tourists in the face of potential natural disasters.
The Mayor of Patong Municipality, Ms. Lalita Maneesri, officially welcomed attendees and presented certificates of appreciation to participating agencies. The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Teerapong Chuachu, Chief Deputy of Phuket Province, who presided over the ceremony.

Organized by the Patong Municipality’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office in collaboration with various government and non-government entities, the exercise simulated a realistic tsunami emergency triggered by an earthquake. Participants practiced evacuation procedures using designated escape routes—starting from Patong Beach, moving through Bangla Road and Saensabai Alley, and culminating at the safety zone located at Saensabai Parking Area.
The drill saw the enthusiastic involvement of municipal officials, local businesses, community leaders, non-profits, volunteers, and residents. Tourists in the area also took part, reflecting the shared commitment to public safety.

The primary goals of the exercise were to:
- Educate the public about the tsunami evacuation plan
- Enhance coordination among emergency response teams
- Empower individuals to assist themselves and others during a crisis
- Reduce panic and build confidence in disaster readiness
- Minimize loss of life and property should a real tsunami occur
By rehearsing these steps in a controlled setting, the initiative reinforces a culture of preparedness and community resilience in this popular coastal destination.
