Phuket –
Authorities in Phuket have launched an intensive search effort for a young man from Pattani who went missing after being swept away by strong waves while swimming with friends. The incident occurred on July 25th, 2025, at approximately 5:50 PM near the wooden pier at Nai Thon Beach in Thalang.
Officials told the Phuket Express that the missing individual has been identified as Nianas Saleh, age 23, originally from Padang Besar in Pattani. He was working in Phuket and had gone swimming with five friends when he ventured into deeper waters. Witnesses say a powerful wave swept him away in full view of his companions. In response, local officials have coordinated efforts to locate the missing man.
A marine rescue command center has been established, bringing together numerous agencies and resources:
- The Kusoldharm Foundation has deployed 25 divers and 3 inflatable boats
- Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization and airport authorities have added 4 more inflatable boats
- Local governments are conducting coastal surveys and combing nearby rock formations
- Media teams are assisting with aerial drones to scan the shoreline for signs of the missing swimmer
Despite their combined efforts, including aerial reconnaissance and underwater searches, no unusual objects or signs have been found. The family of the missing man has traveled from Padang Besar to assist and follow the rescue mission closely.
This heartbreaking situation has cast a spotlight on the dangers of swimming in unmonitored beach areas and the importance of coordinated emergency response. Local teams vow to continue the search until they have clear answers.
