Five Foreign Tourists Rescued After Tour Boat Leak off Phuket

Phuket –

A routine marine excursion took an unexpected turn when a tour vessel named Poseidon, carrying five international tourists, encountered engine trouble while returning from a sea trip. The incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday (June 9th) between Koh Yao (Long Island) and Koh Khiao (Green Island), off the coast of Phuket.

The boat suffered damage to its exhaust pipe, which led to a hull leak and compromised its seaworthiness. Fortunately, the tour operator immediately contacted the local authorities, triggering a rapid emergency response.

The Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (PPAO), led by President Rewat Areerob, deployed its Tourist Assistance Center—known as the “Pearl Center”—along with its Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division. Patrol Boat 3 was dispatched to the scene and safely evacuated all five passengers, transporting them back to Chalong Pier without injury.

Meanwhile, crew members aboard the support vessel Mermaid successfully sealed the leak to prevent further water. Working together, Andaman Pearl 3 and Mermaid then towed the compromised Poseidon safely back to shore.
