Phuket –
As holidaymakers flood into the island paradise of Phuket for the long weekend break, two skilled police dogs—K-9 “Donut” and “Omo”—have joined security operations at Phuket International Airport to help ensure passengers travel safely and with peace of mind.

From July 7 to July 16, 2025, “Donut” and “Omo,” along with their trained handlers from Border Patrol Police Unit 42, based at Srinakharindra Camp in Nakhon Si Thammarat, are conducting daily patrols at the airport terminal and surrounding areas. Their mission: to detect suspicious odors, inspect luggage, and prevent potential threats—including dangerous items and explosives—from entering the airport zone.

The heightened security response follows a recent case in neighboring Phang Nga, where authorities apprehended a suspect linked to suspicious objects. The individual revealed multiple locations where such items had been placed, including the motorcycle parking area of Phuket Airport, Patong Beach, Promthep Cape, and Surin Beach—all of which were safely secured by officials in time.

This K-9 deployment shows the importance of proactive safety measures in Thailand’s high-traffic tourism zones. By involving trained dogs in the operation, officials aim to boost confidence among travelers and reinforce the country’s commitment to public safety during peak travel periods.

For passengers arriving during the holidays, the presence of these four-legged guardians is both a comfort and a symbol of enhanced protection.
