Phuket –

A violent dispute between two Myanmar nationals working at a prominent hotel in Phuket ended in tragedy late Tuesday night, when both men fatally stabbed each other during a confrontation over a romantic relationship.

The Karon Police told the Phuket Express that the incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. on July 2 at the entrance of a staff dormitory located on Patak Road in Karon Subdistrict, Mueang District. The victims, identified as Mr. Pae Tet (24) and Mr. Yi (21), were employed at the same hotel and reportedly involved in a love triangle with a woman named Miss Ei Ei, who was present during the altercation.

According to eyewitness testimony from Miss Ei Ei, the two men had agreed to meet and resolve tensions surrounding their relationship with her. However, the conversation quickly escalated into a heated argument, culminating in both men attacking each other with knives. Despite emergency medical intervention, both succumbed to their injuries at Chalong Hospital.

During the incident, Mr. Htet, the younger brother of one of the victims, attempted to intervene but sustained a foot injury in the process.

Officers from Karon Police Station arrived at the scene and recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack. Preliminary witness statements have been collected, and authorities are coordinating with the Myanmar Embassy to notify the victims’ families. Autopsy procedures are currently underway.

The case is being handled by Police Lieutenant Colonel Eksak Khwanwan, with oversight from Police Lieutenant Colonel Wiwat Chamnankit, acting superintendent of Karon Police Station.

This incident adds to growing concerns over interpersonal violence among migrant workers in Thailand’s tourism sector, prompting calls for improved conflict resolution support and mental health resources within the hospitality industry.
