Phuket –
On June 30, 2025, officials from the Upper Andaman Sea Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center (UAMCRRC) in Phuket, Thailand, reported on the outcome of a rescue effort involving a live-stranded green sea turtle found along the shoreline in front of a hotel in Cherng Talay, Thalang.

The turtle was found to be in critical condition. Veterinary examinations revealed multiple fractures in its left hind limb, the presence of a fishing hook embedded deep within its esophagus, and signs of severe anemia and muscle inflammation based on blood analysis.

Emergency surgery was promptly performed to remove the hook, which had become lodged in the esophageal wall and caused a serious infection. The surrounding tissue had developed an abscess, suggesting the hook had been inside the turtle for an extended period. While the surgery was successful in extracting the foreign object, the turtle remained weak.

Despite intensive rehabilitation efforts by veterinary staff, the green sea turtle’s health continued to deteriorate, ultimately resulting in its death. Officials believe that a combination of chronic anemia and secondary infection led to its passing.
