Drug Bust in Thalang: Authorities Crack Down on Methamphetamine Trade

Thalang –

On the evening of July 2nd, at approximately 6:30 PM, law enforcement officials in Phuket made a decisive move in their ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking. A specialized task force launched a covert operation in the Phru Sompharn neighborhood of Thepkrasattri in Thalang.

Officers told the Phuket Express that the mission was prompted by a tip-off alleging that a local grocery store was being used as a front for the illegal sale of methamphetamine, commonly known as “yaba.” The suspect, who was out on bail for a prior drug-related charge, was reportedly continuing to sell narcotics openly.

Acting on intelligence, the task force deployed an undercover informant to conduct a sting purchase. The subsequent raid resulted in the arrest of one male suspect on charges of:

  • Possession of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) with intent to sell
  • Unlicensed distribution of a dangerous narcotic for commercial purposes, contributing to its spread within the community
  • Total of 282 yaba tablets (including 25 tablets obtained through the sting operation)

The suspect and the confiscated evidence were handed over to Thalang Police Station for legal proceedings. Authorities stated that further investigations are underway to dismantle any connected drug networks and prevent future trafficking activities in the region.
