Phuket –
Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat led the opening ceremony at the historic Chartered Bank Intersection, joined by local government officials, civic groups, private sector representatives, and citizens from around the country. Together, they took to the streets in a lively pride parade that displays Phuket’s commitment to becoming a “City of Equality” on the international stage.

Hosting the event was Phuket City Mayor Supachok La-ongphet, who welcomed participants and reaffirmed the local government’s resolve to protect gender rights and cultivate safe spaces for every member of society. The mayor explained the city’s intention to elevate not just tolerance, but genuine inclusion in public life.

A key figure marching alongside the crowd was Teerasak Pholngam, Chairman of Andaman Charoen Co., Ltd., the event’s principal sponsor. His presence reflected the growing support from the private sector in advancing social equality. The collaboration between government, business, and civil society was widely celebrated as a model for inclusive progress.

Under the theme “Wave of Generations,” this year’s pride event spotlighted the powerful tapestry of intergenerational voices and identities—especially from within the LGBTQIAN+ community, whose contributions have long enriched Thai culture. Over 4,000 participants, including artists, celebrities, and activists, took part in a colorful parade that wound through Thalang Road and Phuket’s historic district, captivating onlookers and tourists alike.

A highlight of the event was the debut of “Pride Bunny,” an official mascot symbolizing gender fluidity and freedom of expression. Inspired by ancient Chinese folklore, in which rabbits were seen as creatures with ambiguous traits when coexisting in pairs, the character embodies the spirit of Pride 2025: a celebration beyond binaries.

With this event, Phuket reaffirmed its identity as a safe and welcoming place for all—regardless of gender, orientation, status, or background. The island also reiterated its pledge to champion inclusive tourism that leaves no one behind and to continue pushing for global recognition as a leader in equality-driven travel experiences.
