PHUKET —
A second suspected explosive device was discovered on Thursday morning, June 26th on Patong Beach.
The device, buried beneath the sand roughly 200 meters from the Dolphin Public Park, was spotted around 11:00 AM by local authorities conducting a coordinated search. Police officers from Region 8 and Phuket Provincial Police swiftly cordoned off the vicinity to ensure the safety of beachgoers and tourists.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum, Commander of the Phuket Provincial Police, oversaw the on-site operation alongside an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and other related agencies. Officers employed a high-pressure water disruptor to disable the device, which appeared to resemble an improvised explosive.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the nature of the object but believe it is directly tied to an earlier suspect’s confession. The first device was reportedly located earlier that same morning following the suspect’s interrogation.
Security measures remain heightened as forensic specialists continue to examine the scene and sweep the area for further threats. Officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement efforts while investigations proceed.
