UPDATE: Suspicious Motorcycle Destroyed at Phuket Airport: Explosive Not Yet Confirmed

Phuket–

Officials are still working to identify the nature of a suspicious object discovered inside a motorcycle parked at Phuket International Airport’s domestic terminal. The discovery led to a controlled detonation on the evening of June 25th, but authorities have yet to confirm whether the item was an actual explosive.

Our previous story:

Phuket International Airport (HKT) initiated a security protocol on June 25, 2025, following the discovery of a suspicious motorcycle left unattended in the domestic terminal’s motorcycle parking area.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum, Commander of the Phuket Provincial Police told the Phuket Express. “The loud noise heard during the operation came from the EOD’s equipment and the suspicious item itself. While the object was damaged in the process, we cannot yet say definitively whether it was an explosive.”

He added that the damage caused by the incident was minimal, which suggests that if the object had been an actual bomb, its destructive power would likely have been far greater. Forensic teams are currently examining the fragments to determine the item’s exact nature.

Despite the scare, airport operations were unaffected, and authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Enhanced security measures remain in place to ensure passenger safety. The investigation is ongoing.
