Phuket’s Noodle ‘Mee Hokkien’ Earns Guinness World Record

Phuket—

In a bold celebration of culinary tradition and cultural identity, Phuket officially claimed a spot in the Guinness World Records with the largest synchronized serving of Hokkien Mee, staged as the highlight event of the Phuket Peranakan Festival 2025.

The Phuket Public Relation Office told the Phuket Express that the spectacle unfolded at the Saphan Hin headland, where the Phuket Provincial Government, in collaboration with the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization, Phuket City Municipality, the Peranakan Association of Thailand, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), the Thai International Events and Festivals Association (TIEFA), the Phuket Art Association, and various local stakeholders, orchestrated an event that fused gastronomy, community spirit, and international recognition.

The ceremony was presided over by Phuket Deputy Governor Suvit Phanphensri, alongside key dignitaries including Rewat Areerob, President of the Phuket Provincial Administration; Anchalee Vanich Thephabutra, founder and honorary member of the Peranakan Association; Dr. Kosol Taenguthai, current president of the association; Professor Gang Hoan Jeong, President of Asia IFEA; and Boonperm Intanapasat, TIEFA President and CEO of RunRIO Thailand.

The event’s centerpiece featured 846 bowls of Hokkien Mee arranged to spell out “PHUKET,” with each letter crafted from a carefully calculated number of servings: P (144), H (162), U (162), K (144), E (126), and T (108). A rigorous inspection process was carried out by food lab specialists and hygiene officers to ensure all servings met international standards ahead of Guinness’ official verification.

At 5:00 PM, audiences were treated to the International Peranakan Performance Show, followed by the record-breaking moment: 800 participants synchronized their efforts to stir-fry Hokkien Mee over 20 minutes, while drones captured sweeping aerial footage of the event. The feat was confirmed with 508 servings officially recognized by Guinness World Records.

The record was not only a celebration of Phuket’s culinary pride but also a statement of the island’s cultural vitality and its capacity to elevate local identity to global platforms. As part of the event’s sustainable ethos, all noodle servings were donated to the Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation for distribution to the Phuket Special Education Center, ensuring 300 children benefited from the communal effort without food waste.
