Police Arrest Driver for Using Fake License Plates and Tax Sticker

Phuket –

Police in Phuket have arrested a 47-year-old man for using forged license plates and an altered tax sticker on his vehicle while passing through the Phuket Checkpoint.

The Highway Police told the Phuket Express that they arrested Mr. Prasert on charges of forgery and the use of counterfeit government documents.

The incident took place at the main Phuket checkpoint in Mai Khao, Thalang. Officers stationed at the checkpoint noticed suspicious behavior from the driver of a pickup truck, prompting them to stop and inspect the vehicle.

During the inspection, police discovered that both the license plates and the tax sticker on the vehicle did not match official records from the Department of Land Transport. Further analysis revealed signs of tampering, raising concerns about document forgery.

Upon questioning, Mr. Prasert confessed that he had personally altered the information on the genuine license plate. He stated that he had been leasing the vehicle, but after failing to make payments, he feared repossession by the financing company. To avoid losing the vehicle, he modified the official documents to obscure its true registration details.

The suspect was taken into custody and transferred to Tha Chatchai Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Under Thai law, forgery and the use of counterfeit government documents carry severe penalties, including imprisonment of six months to five years and fines ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 THB.
