Phang Nga–
A severe collision at the Ga-Lai Three-way intersection on the Petchkasem Road in Takua Tung where a trailer truck, reportedly driven by a driver in a moment of unintentional sleep, slammed into a stationary sedan and a pickup truck waiting at a red light.
The Takua Tung Police told the Phuket Expres that preliminary investigations indicate that the trailer truck barreled forward at high speed despite the halted traffic. The small sedan, waiting for the green signal, was struck forcefully at its rear end, after which the momentum carried the trailer into a pickup truck.
Four people sustained severe injuries and were trapped inside the sedan.Rescue crews had to employ cutting tools to extricate the trapped occupants from the wreckage before transporting them to nearby medical facilities for urgent care.
One of them, a 27 year old Thai man from Songkhla, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police have yet to press charges over the sleepy truck driver but legal proceedings are likely forthcoming.
