Rawai –
An operation aimed at enforcing labor regulations and ensuring public safety has led to officials in Phuket to conduct thorough inspections of migrant worker camps in Rawai.
Relevant officials told the Phuket Express that on Friday (May 9th) they inspected four labor camps, scrutinizing employment documents, living conditions, and adherence to social security requirements. A total of 165 migrant workers were checked, with all presenting valid documentation. However, drug screening tests revealed four individuals had consumed illegal substances. The suspects were immediately detained and transferred to Chalong Police Station for legal proceedings.
Further investigations found irregularities in the registration of labor accommodations. While one camp had secured proper approval, three others had yet to obtain official permits. Authorities will now coordinate with local officials to resolve compliance issues and enforce relevant regulations.
Additionally, a review of laborers’ social security status uncovered that 123 workers were enrolled in the system, while 42 remained unregistered. Officials from the Phuket Social Security Office provided legal guidance to employers, urging them to complete registration to meet national labor standards.
