Phuket, Thailand –
A Tunisian national was arrested in Phuket after attempting to move a vehicle that had been immobilized by traffic police for illegal parking. The individual is set to be prosecuted in court following multiple traffic violations.
The Phuket City Police told the Phuket Express that the incident occurred around noon earlier this week when the unidentified foreign tourist tried to relocate a car that had been wheel-clamped and issued a fine for parking in a restricted area. The location, marked with white and yellow lines, is designated for public transport pick-up and drop-off, making private vehicle parking strictly prohibited.
Authorities identified the suspect as a Tunisian man, who has since been charged with attempting to move a vehicle immobilized by a law enforcement order under Section 59 in conjunction with Section 159 of the Land Traffic Act B.E. 2522 and driving without a valid license, a violation of Thai traffic laws.
The suspect has been taken into custody for legal processing and will be presented before the court for further proceedings.
Additionally, police charged the vehicle owner/rental operator for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate their rental car. Under Section 57 of the Vehicle Act B.E. 2522, this violation resulted in a fine of 2,000 Thai baht.
