Phuket—
A cleaning company employee has been arrested for filing a false police report, claiming she had been robbed in an attempt to delay repaying her debts.
On May 8, officers from Wichit Police told the Phuket Express that they brought in 33-year-old Pawina for questioning after discrepancies emerged in her reported incident.
She had initially claimed that two individuals on a motorcycle had intercepted her, threatened her with a knife, and stolen 28,000 baht in cash, her mobile phone, and several important documents near Khlong Mudong Bird Racing Track late on May 6.
However, upon reviewing surveillance footage from the area, authorities found no evidence supporting her claims. Under further interrogation, Pawina confessed to fabricating the story in an attempt to obtain an official police report, hoping to use it as leverage to negotiate debt repayment terms with her creditors and company.
Her deception unraveled when police noticed inconsistencies in her statement. Once confronted with the lack of supporting evidence, Pawina admitted that both the money and phone allegedly stolen actually belonged to her employer. She intended to present the police report to her company and creditors in an attempt to postpone payments.
Instead of escaping her financial troubles, Pawina now faces legal consequences for filing a false police report, a crime that could result in fines or imprisonment.
