Surat Thani –
Seven foreign tourists, reportedly Russians, were rushed to hospitals in Surat Thani after consuming wild fruit at a nature park, experiencing severe symptoms including chest tightness, vomiting, and dizziness.
The Surat Thani officials told the Phuket Express that the incident occurred this week in the vicinity of Tham Khao Na Nai Luang Park in Phanom. Upon receiving the emergency call, rescue teams arrived at the scene, accompanied by medical personnel and emergency vehicles.
Rescuers found seven Russian nationals exhibiting signs of poisoning after eating an unidentified wild fruit. Medical teams classified the cases based on severity, with one tourist in critical condition (red level), while six others displayed moderate symptoms (yellow level). Four individuals, including the red-level patient, were transported to Phanom Hospital, while the remaining three were taken to Ban Ta Khun Hospital for further treatment.
Fortunately, all affected individuals have now been declared stable and out of danger. Authorities are currently investigating the nature of the fruit consumed to determine its toxicity and prevent future incidents.
Local officials have urged visitors to exercise caution when consuming unfamiliar plants in natural areas, pointing out the risks posed by toxic wildlife and vegetation.
