PRESS RELEASE:
Fourth Army Region Commander Lieutenant General Paisarn Noosang has visited Narathiwat province to oversee security operations following deadly shootings in Chanae and Tak Bai districts on May 2. The attacks resulted in the deaths of four civilians, including a 76-year-old blind woman and a nine-year-old girl, and left three others injured.
During the visit, Lt Gen Paisarn met with local officials and residents to assess the situation and offer reassurance. He ordered increased protection for at-risk groups and strengthened patrols in vulnerable areas. Several suspects have already been detained by the Tactical Command Center, which had been set up earlier in the region, and investigations are ongoing into potential links with broader networks.
Authorities believe the violence was intentionally directed at civilians. In response, military operations have been stepped up, with the Tactical Command Center intensifying its pursuit of those involved and enforcing strict security protocols. Personnel have been instructed to remain vigilant while ensuring the safety of local communities.
Officials have warned the public to be cautious when consuming social media content, as false or misleading information could be used to create unrest in the region. Reports of suspicious behavior can be made by calling the Fourth Army Region Commander at 061-173-2999 or ISOC Region 4 Forward Command at 1341.
The public is also reminded that aiding or concealing suspects is punishable under Section 189 of the Penal Code, with penalties of up to two years in prison, a fine of 40,000 baht, or both. Security operations remain active, with authorities working to bring those responsible to justice.
