Patong –
Authorities from Patong Police Station launched an investigation following the circulation of a controversial video clip on social media. The footage, originally filmed three years ago, resurfaced online, sparking concerns over its impact on Phuket’s reputation.
The Patong Police told the Phuket Express that they examined the sharing of the video via a local Facebook news page. The post, accompanied by provocative wording, depicted a foreign couple engaging in inappropriate behavior on Patong Beach.
Authorities later summoned Mr. Ingkarat, the individual responsible for filming the footage. During questioning, he admitted to recording the video on August 5, 2022, near the beachfront in Patong. He explained that he had uploaded the clip onto his personal Facebook page on May 1, 2025, unaware of the potential consequences.
Furthermore, he revealed that his video had been shared by Facebook news pages without his consent. The unauthorized redistribution amplified the controversy surrounding the post, prompting police intervention.
Following the inquiry, officers formally cautioned him, advising him to exercise greater discretion when posting online content. They added that such material could hurt Patong’s image and the broader perception of Phuket, urging all social media users to be mindful of the impact of their posts. Patong Police continue to monitor social media activity to prevent further incidents that could damage the province’s reputation.
