Police Enforce Public Decency Regulations on Pha Ngan Island

Surat Thani –

Local authorities on Koh Phangan have intensified their efforts to maintain public decency following reports of foreign tourists engaging in nudity at popular beach destinations.

Our previous story:

Koh Phangan police responded to a report from local residents who witnessed a naked Polish couple hugging in the middle of a public road, seemingly unfazed by passing traffic or onlookers.

This week, officers from Koh Phangan Police Station conducted inspections at Zen Beach, a serene and picturesque location known for attracting international visitors. Officials discovered that a number of tourists had completely disrobed while sunbathing and swimming, prompting concerns over violations of local regulations.

According to statements gathered from the scene, it appeared that word had spread among tourists regarding the beach’s tranquil nature, leading some to assume that nudity was permitted or tolerated. However, local laws strictly prohibit such behavior.

In response, Koh Pha Ngan Police installed signs explicitly prohibiting nudity at Zen Beach and nearby Secret Beach. Additionally, the authorities launched an informational campaign, distributing brochures and flyers to tourists, resort owners, rental homeowners, and restaurant operators in the vicinity.

The initiative aimed to ensure that all visitors and businesses were aware that public nudity constitutes a legal offense and could lead to prosecution. Furthermore, officials stressed that such behavior is considered disruptive to public order and may result in visa revocation or restrictions on future entry into Thailand.

Authorities urge tourists to respect local customs and regulations to foster a welcoming and harmonious environment for all visitors.
