New Zealander Arrested at Phuket Airport with Cocaine Hidden in His Passport

Phuket –

Phuket authorities have apprehended a 24 year-old New Zealander for attempting to smuggle cocaine into Thailand, concealing the drug within his passport.

The Phuket Immigration told the Phuket Express that on Tuesday (April 8th), at approximately 3:10 P.M., a joint operation led by the Phuket Airport Immigration Investigation Unit and Sakoo Police resulted in the arrest of the 24-year-old male New Zealander suspect.

The suspect was found in possession of 0.18 grams of cocaine, packed in a small resealable plastic bag and hidden within his passport. He was detained at the international arrivals hall of Phuket International Airport. Authorities have charged him with “Importing a Category 2 narcotic (cocaine) into the kingdom and possessing it unlawfully.”

The suspect has been handed over to the Sakoo Police for further legal proceedings. The suspect did not release any statement as of press time.

Amazingly, this isn’t the first time this has happened. In May of last year a British man was arrested for also having cocaine in his passport.

In late 2023, an Australian man was also arrested with cocaine in his passport.
