Phuket –
A foreign female tourist was assaulted by a Thai man in the Phuket Old Town area raising concerns about public safety.
The incident occurred while the tourist was standing by the roadside when she was unexpectedly attacked. Witnesses reported that the assailant grabbed her hair and punched her repeatedly. Fortunately, a local bystander quickly stepped in preventing the situation from escalating further.
The bystander who was later identified as Mr. Chindanai, 34, a Phuket local who was wearing a long-sleeved shirt and a helmet, pushed the attacker away, prompting him to flee the scene. The shaken tourist managed to escape unharmed beyond initial distress. The altercation was captured on video by motorists shared across social media, where it drew widespread attention. Many expressed concern over the safety of tourists and the need for stricter security measures in crowded areas.
The Phuket City Police told the Phuket Express that they quickly arrested the attacker, identified only as Mr. Prasong, 40, from Chanthaburi. The suspect is currently undergoing further questioning.
While the tourist chose not to press charges, authorities assured the public that legal action would be pursued.
