Phuket Town Bag Snatcher Nabbed Within Six Hours

Phuket –

On Wednesday (April 2nd), 2025, The Phuket City Police arrested a suspect within just six hours of the crime being committed. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Phuket native Mr. Jakkarin, was apprehended at a rental property near the Rassada Pier for snatching the bag of a victim.

The Phuket City Police told the Phuket Express that the incident occurred on the evening of April 1st when the victim reported to the police that a man on a motorcycle had snatched her black handbag. The bag contained an iPhone 14, 2,000 Thai Baht in cash, and personal belongings. The theft occurred near a restaurant in the Sam Kong area of Talat Yai in Phuket Town.

Upon his arrest, officers recovered the stolen iPhone and 1,600 Thai Baht in cash. However, the suspect admitted to discarding the victim’s personal documents in a trash bin and the stolen phone in a wooded area behind his rental property.

Police also found eight methamphetamine pills in the suspect’s possession. A urine test confirmed that the suspect had consumed drugs prior to his arrest.

During questioning, Mr. Jakkarin confessed to the crime, claiming it was an impulsive act motivated by a quarrel with his girlfriend, who had recently ended their relationship. He stated that he had used some of the stolen money to purchase drugs.

Further investigation revealed that Mr. Jakkarin has a history of similar offenses. He was recently released from prison in July 2024 after serving time for a previous snatch theft.

The suspect now faces multiple charges, including night-time theft using a vehicle, possession of a Category 1 controlled substance (methamphetamine), and drug consumption. He is currently in police custody as authorities prepare the case for legal proceedings.
