UPDATE: Russian Woman Arrested in Phuket for Possessing Counterfeit Money

Phuket –

A Russian woman was arrested in Wcihit after she allegedly exchanged counterfeit U.S. Dollar banknotes.

Our previous story:

The investigation began on the evening of March 23rd when a 53-year-old Russian woman, identified as Ms. Ruspashkova, tried exchanging 38 of $50 notes amounting to over 56,000 baht. Local currency exchange outlets flagged the bills as potentially counterfeit, prompting a police inquiry.

Now for the update:

The Wichit Police told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they successfully apprehended a Russian female tourist accused of possessing and attempting to circulate counterfeit U.S. currency. The arrest was made at a prominent beachfront hotel in the Laem Panwa area.

The arrest was based on a warrant issued by the Phuket Provincial Court under Sections 240 and 241 of the Criminal Code. These statutes pertain to the possession and distribution of counterfeit or altered items, in this case involving foreign government-issued banknotes.

Authorities were alerted to suspicious activity when the individual allegedly attempted to exchange a counterfeit 50 USD note. This prompted a deeper investigation, leading officers to search her hotel room.

The search uncovered over 30 additional fake U.S. dollar bills. Subsequent verification by relevant agencies confirmed that the notes were indeed counterfeit.
