Five Ugandan Women Arrested for Prostitution on Bangla Road

Patong –

Phuket Immigration has recently reinforced its commitment to upholding Thailand’s tourism industry by cracking down on illegal activities in Patong’s Bangla Road area. These operations align with nationwide policies set forth by the Royal Thai Police and the Immigration Bureau to address legal violations by foreign nationals.

The recent investigation came following reports from local residents about a group of foreign women allegedly engaging in solicitation of prostitution, which negatively impacted the area’s image as a tourist destination. Acting on these complaints, officers conducted surveillance on Bangla Road on Tuesday in the early morning of March 25th.

Authorities then observed five African women interacting with tourists in the vicinity. After confirming evidence of solicitation, officials apprehended the individuals, who were identified as Ugandan nationals:

  1. Miss Mayimuna, 36
  2. Miss Hadijah, 36
  3. Miss Sandra, 31
  4. Miss Harriet, 35
  5. Miss Bett, 38

Upon questioning, the women admitted to their activities, resulting in charges under Section 5 of Thailand’s Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act (1996). This law prohibits solicitation or actions causing public disturbance and embarrassment. The individuals were fined and handed over to the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security for further legal procedures.

Phuket Immigration also revoked the woman’s permission to reside in Thailand and started deportation proceedings.
