Four men en route to Phuket were arrested in Phang Nga after police seized four AK-47 rifles and over 50 rounds of ammunition during a checkpoint inspection.
On March 23rd, Phang Nga Police were able to seize military-grade firearms and ammunition at a checkpoint in Wang Mo Kaeng, along the Phang Nga-Tap Pud Road, in the Tha Chang subdistrict.
Four suspects were arrested, including Mr. Zulaffal, 28, Mr. Sawarus, 27, Mr. Abdulrom, 49, and Mr. Faisol, 28, all from southern Thailand. Officers observed suspicious behavior among the suspects and requested to search their vehicles.
To the officers’ surprise, they found four AK-47 assault rifles and 9 AK-47 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, all concealed in a white sack behind the passenger seat of the vehicles. The total ammunition amounted to 54 rounds.
The four suspects reportedly confessed that they were heading to Phuket. The police have since handed over the suspects and the seized items to the Phang Nga Police Station for further legal action.
