Two Illegal Loan Sharks Arrested in Phuket

Phuket –

Two illegal Thai loan sharks were arrested in Phuket on Thursday (February 27th).

Phuket Immigration officers told The Phuket Express that other than ongoing crackdowns on foreigners who are operating businesses illegally or on overstay, they are also cracking down on loan sharks and operations related to pawning possessions such as vehicles illegally in Phuket.

Phuket Immigration Officials stated that they arrested two suspects identified only as Mr. Naruechai, 26, and Mr. Kreangsak, 24, after they were found providing illegal loan shark services against Thai law with two percent interest. They had allegedly been generating hundreds of thousands of baht in interest payments per month.

Both suspects were taken to the Phuket City Police Station to face charges of conducting an illegal loan operation with excessive interest rates against Thai laws.
