Six-Year-Old Thai Girl Tragically Drowns at Lagoon in Koh Kaew, Phuket

Phuket –

A six-year-old Thai girl tragically drowned at a lagoon in Koh Kaew on Friday (February 28th).

Rescue divers were notified of the tragic incident at 5:10 P.M. at a lagoon in Koh Kaew. The rescue teams arrived at the scene to find her parents nearby who were both crying. Many people had been exercising near the lagoon during the incident and were watching the attempted rescue operation.

Rescue divers went into the roughly two meter deep lagoon to search for the victim. It took only two minutes for them to find the body of the girl.

Her parents told The Phuket Express that their six-year-old girl was trying to get a wooden stick that her four-year-old sister dropped into the lagoon. The parents stated that they turned their back for only a few seconds before discovering that their six year-old daughter had disappeared.

The drowning will be reviewed by local authorities and the names of the parents and child were withheld at the scene.
