Myanmar Worker, Thai Shop Owner Arrested for Illegal Trade on Koh Phangan

Surat Thani, February 19th, 2025 – Koh Phangan police conducted patrols to crack down on illegal activities involving foreign workers and cross-border crime. 

Acting on local complaints, officers inspected a convenience store in Ban Tai subdistrict, suspected of selling smuggled Myanmar goods to migrant workers.

Authorities arrested 54-year-old Myanmar national Mrs. San Ngwe for working beyond her permitted role and failing to report her employment details within the required timeframe. 

The shop’s 61-year-old Thai owner, Sakon Nanta, was also detained for possessing and selling goods that had not passed customs procedures and for illegally hiring a foreign worker.

Both suspects, along with the confiscated goods, were handed over to Koh Phangan police for further legal proceedings.
