Phuket– Over a span of seven days, from February 10th to February 16th, Phuket Immigration officials arrested a total of 1,625 foreigners for breaking traffic laws.
In addition to traffic-related arrests, officials reported the following:
1. Thirty arrests under the Immigration Act.
2. Nine arrests under the Tourism Business and Guide Act.
3. Eight arrests for operating businesses without legal permission.
4. Eight arrests for illegal possession and sale of drugs.
5. Ten arrests for drunk driving.
6. Eighteen arrests on outstanding warrants.
In 2024, a total of 32,172 foreigners were arrested for traffic violations.
The Phuket Express notes that in many of these cases, although technically considered an arrest, a traffic fine is typically paid versus jail time or deportation. Fines vary depending on the type of offense.
