Three Taiwanese Nationals and Three Thais Arrested in Phuket, Allegedly Connected to Large Online Gambling Network

Phuket –

Three Taiwanese nationals and three Thai suspects have been arrested in Phuket after they were found to have allegedly been connected to a large online gambling network in Thailand.

The Cyber Crime Investigation Police told the Phuket Express that on Monday (February 10th) they arrested three Taiwanese nationals and three Thai suspects at a luxury house in the Mueang Phuket district. Seized from them were 119 mobile phones, 19 bank books and a small amount of illegal drugs as well: Six Ecstasy tablets and 74.5 grams of Ketamine.

The Taiwanese suspects admitted to police that they were hired by another unidentified Taiwanese national to run online gambling websites for 50,000 Baht per month. They then hired the Thai people for 20,000 Baht per month. Two of the Taiwanese nationals were holding tourist visas while the other had an educational visa.

The arrest follows officers finding at least six related online gambling websites in which some prior suspects had been arrested. Officers continued their investigation and they tracked down payment routes from the online gambling networks which showed them to have generated at least 10 million Baht per day.

The Cyber Crime Police have not released the names and details of the suspects due to ongoing investigations.
