UPDATE: Driver Blames Slippery Road Following Tour Bus Crash in Phuket That Injured Multiple Foreign Tourists

Karon –

A tour bus driver claimed that the road was slippery causing the crash that left nine people injured, including foreign tourists, in Karon, Phuket.

Our previous story:

A tour bus carrying passengers, including foreign Chinese tourists, veered off a main road in Karon, plunging down a hill.

Now for the update:

The Karon Police told the Phuket Express reporters that the tour bus driver, who remains unidentified by law enforcement, claimed that the road was slippery due to a water truck in front of the bus dropping some water on the road.

The driver claimed he was unable to control the bus before it fell into a spin and tumbled down a hill. There were four Chinese tourists in a family, a Russian couple, a German tourist, and a female Thai tourist on the bus. They all sustained minor injuries.

Rescue teams noted to our reporters that the people on the bus were very lucky because the vehicle was stopped in its descent by multiple bamboo trees during the crash. Had this not happened, the bus could have fallen onto Karon Beach many meters below and led to much more serious injuries or worse.

The Phuket Express notes that the personal details of the driver and tourists were not released to the press, with police citing that due to an ongoing investigation they were withholding names for the time being.
