Cherng Talay – Police and mahouts spent an eventful morning chasing a young elephant that wandered onto roads in Cherng Talay, Thalang, before it ended up taking a shower in a canal.

The Cherng Talay Police informed the Phuket Express that they were notified on Thursday morning, January 23rd, of an elephant that had escaped from an elephant camp in Soi Cherng Talay 3. The elephant was seen running towards Soi Cherng Talay 1 and Sri Soonthorn Road, one of the busiest roads in Cherng Talay, with an iron part stuck on its head.

The Cherng Talay Traffic Police and mahouts spent about one and a half hours searching for the elephant. They eventually found it enjoying a shower in a small canal nearby.

The elephant was safely returned to the elephant camp. It has been reported that the iron part on its head caused damage to some vehicles.

A manager of the elephant camp was called to the Cherng Talay Police Station. Authorities urged drivers and road users to file reports if their vehicles or properties were damaged by the elephant.
