Dugong Found Dead in Koh Kaew

A dugong was found dead near the Coconut Island in Koh Kaew, Mueang Phuket.

The Thai Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that they were notified of the dead dugong from a fishing farm operator.

The DMCR arrived to find the teenage female dugong. She weighed about 110 kilograms and was two meters long. No severe wounds were found on her. She was taken to the Sireetarn Marine Endangered Animal Rescue Center in Wichit to find her exact cause of death.

There have been multiple deaths of dugongs in South Thailand reported in the past six months, concerning environmentalists and relevant officials alike, as we cover below.
