UPDATE: Jet-Ski License Expired in Patong Collison Claims Life of Chinese

Patong –

One of the Jet-skis involved in a recent fatal accident was found with its license expired.

Our previous story:

A tragic jet-ski collision at Patong Beach claimed the life of a Chinese tourist. The incident occurred near the Dolphin Public Park, according to emergency responders who spoke to the Phuket Express.

Now for the update:

In a recent statement to The Phuket Express, a Phuket Marine Officer shed light on the jet-ski licensing issues involved in the recent tragic incident in Phuket waters. Mr. Liu Hong Chao, a 33-year-old Chinese national who was pronounced dead after the accident, was riding a jet-ski with a license that was due to expire in December of this year.

In contrast, Mr. Lyu Zhifei, a 28-year-old Chinese national who sustained minor injuries in the same incident, was operating a jet-ski with an expired license. The license of Mr. Lyu’s jet ski, which was his and not a rental, had lapsed on January 10th, just four days before the accident occurred.

The Marine Officer confirmed that Mr. Lyu would face a fine of 10,000 Baht for operating a jet-ski with an expired license, emphasizing the importance of adhering to maritime safety regulations.
