Prime Minister to Address Tourism and Infrastructure in Phuket

PRESS RELEASE:

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is visiting Phuket province tomorrow (Jan 9) to address infrastructure challenges and evaluate the province’s tourism sector.

The prime minister is set to meet with representatives from various agencies to discuss strategies to address drought and flooding and enhance traffic systems, allowing Phuket to become a premier destination for international events.

The premier is also scheduled to inaugurate the Thailand International Boat Show at Phuket Yacht Haven Marina in Thalang district and conduct a site visit to the Bang Niew Dam Reservoir to evaluate flood mitigation efforts and review plans for enhancing water storage capacity.

Phuket continues to attract significant tourism activity, with over 230,000 visitors during the New Year holiday period from December 28 to January 1. This generated well over 8 billion baht in revenue, with an average tourist spending of 9,000 baht daily. Hotel occupancy rates across the province reached 80%, with major tourist areas nearing full capacity.

The Prime Minister’s visit is expected to identify actionable strategies to replicate the province’s achievements in tourism and infrastructure development nationwide.

The preceding is a press release from the Thai Government PR Department.
