Koh Phangan —

Police in Koh Phangan have charged a 46-year-old boat driver, Mr. Phatthapong, with negligence causing death, and illegal use of methamphetamine following a passenger boat capsizing on December 23rd, 2024.

The incident occurred approximately 40 meters off the coast at 3 AM due to strong winds and high waves.

The boat carried 13 people: four Thai nationals, six foreign tourists, and three crew members. All except one passenger, South Korean national Mr. Jin Yoon, were safely rescued.

Tragically, Mr. Yoon’s body was discovered on December 31st, floating three kilometers from Haad Rin Beach.
