Phuket has announced in total 64 road accidents with 65 injuries and one death in eight days (December 27th, 2024– January 3rd, 2025) of the Ten Dangerous Days New Year Road Campaign.
The Phuket Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) Office told the Phuket Express today (January 4th, 2025) details on the eighth day (January 3rd) of the Ten Dangerous Days New Year Road Campaign from December 27th, 2024 to January 5th, 2025.
There were 6 road accidents with 6 injuries. Of those 6 injuries, all were Thais. Three road accidents with 3 injuries were in the Mueang Phuket district. One accident with one injury was in Thalang district. Two accidents with two injuries were in Kathu district. No deaths were reported on the 8th day.
Accidents were mostly caused by excessive speeding (67%), followed by drunk driving (15%) and reckless driving (14%). Most accidents involved motorbikes (92%). Fifty-three percent of road accidents occurred most on national highways. Most accidents occurred between 1:00 A.M. to 3:00 A.M. and 3:00 A.M. to 6:00 A.M. (17%).
