Thailand Leads in Attracting International Tourists This Holiday

PRESS RELEASE:

Thailand has emerged as a top destination for international tourists this December, according to data from SiteMinder, a global hotel revenue management platform. Hotel bookings by foreign travelers have reached 87%, an increase from 84% during the same period last year.

Sasikarn Wattanachun, Deputy Government Spokesperson, cited the report, noting a significant rise in hotel bookings during the Christmas season. From December 21–25, bookings increased by 18% compared to the same time last year. This underscores Thailand’s strong global appeal during the festive period.

Key metrics reveal further growth in the tourism sector. The average daily rate (ADR) for hotel rooms climbed by 16%, from 7,149 baht to 8,313 baht, exceeding the global average. The average length of stay increased by 5%, from 2.63 days to 2.76 days. Meanwhile, the average booking lead time rose by 10%, from 85 days to 93 days.

Sasikarn attributed Thailand’s festive appeal to its warm weather, friendly people, and unique cultural attractions. Despite being predominantly Buddhist, the celebratory spirit of Christmas has drawn many international visitors.

Popular destinations like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket remain top choices for travelers celebrating Christmas. This surge in tourism presents an opportunity to boost revenue for hotel operators and strengthen Thailand’s position as a world-class holiday destination.
