Cold Spell Expected in Northern Thailand with Heavy Rains in the South

National —

At 5:00 AM on December 11th, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department issued a warning about cold weather in northern Thailand, heavy rains in the south, and strong winds over the Gulf of Thailand from December 12th to the 16th.

A high-pressure system from China will bring colder temperatures and strong winds to northern and central Thailand, with temperatures dropping by 4-6°C in the northeast and 2-5°C elsewhere. Residents are urged to stay warm and beware of fire hazards due to dry, windy conditions.

In the south, increased rainfall, including heavy to very heavy rain, is expected, especially from December 13th to 15th, as a low-pressure system moves across the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. The public is warned of flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas.

Waves in the Gulf of Thailand are forecast to reach 2-3 meters, rising above 3 meters in stormy areas. Small boats are advised to stay ashore, and caution is urged for all maritime activities.
